Day one: Sherbrooke at about noon; we're finally off after trying to find rear brake pads for my bike without success & should reach Pohénégamook before nightfall! Sherbrooke aux environs de midi; on part, enfin mais il n'y pas de plaquette de freins arrière en stock chez le dealer!
Day 2 Between Pohénégamook & Rivière Matane; Étienne likes it & I have no more rear brake pads with what we went through yesterday in the quad & sled trails!
Easy street but I did managed a spill when my front wheel made contact with the log & my engine stalled; of course, the bike was leaning on the side of my bad leg at that precise moment & Étienne had a field day of it! lol...
This is getting fun!
Étienne's doing fine & fairing much better than the plastic bags in his boots.
Yep, In & under it ...for most of the day.
There's so much water here that this looger's doing is gon'a blow, soon.
Étienne comes up with this great idea: ''Let's ride on, then''!
A wholelot of water means a wholelot of vegetation in these parts.
This is going to be a long day to cover very little territory.
Well, that's it; time to backtrack cuz we'll reach the Chic Chocs mtns in four months via this trail.
Ohhhhh, the shame of having to quit; ain't that bad cuz there's no witnesses to this & we agreed to keep quiet about it.
Easy street again; we make good time here.
Fast turf; over a 100kph on some of the higher sections & having a blast doing so.
Rivière Matane; it's a road but things are about to change.
Happy go lucky guy, wouldn't you say?
Last walk in civilisation for a while...
See what I mean?
At this point, Goldwings & Motor Homes start to look mighty fine.
Dead end a few meters away; time to once again do some backtracking.
Found our way out after an hour of dead ends & reached Lake Matane in no time on the parc road.
Getting tired of the road to reach the only relay called ''La Cache'' for food & fuel; no riding around allowed or we won't make it to Murdochville for the night.
La Cache: ''Saumon fumé'' is french for ''Smoked Salmon'' ...so, from the smell of our gear, we obliged!
Right out of La Cache, the fun starts &, for the first time, we're riding & it ain't raining; Étienne thinks this is to good to be true.
We're off on this lost trail after doing some dead ends again with no assurance that this will lead us to the parc road to Murdochville for the night.
Things are going slower & slower & it's getting late.
Eureka! We's flying & goofing around on what we think will lead us out of there after managing through by cutting trees & hiking to find lost gear, etc...; the trail got very narrow & nasty before hitting this logging road maze.
We were in a maze all right & took us 2 hours of riding all over the place to find a trail out of there; almost had to spend the night with no more camping gear than food & get back to it at first light but I had noticed what looked like an old trail in one of the multiple ''dead ends''. We managed to find where I had seen this & came out right smack on the parc road 30 minutes later.
This is what a ''I was lost &, now, I'm found'' expression looks like.
Murdochville, here we come!
Étienne's real happy to be out in civilisation; so am I ...to be frank!
Snow in the mtns south of the St-Laurence river in july always impresses me.
Yep, Murdochville is right at the bottom.
High point.
Hey, I'm getting a wif of grilled moose coming from the East.
So quit the Japanese tourist act & haul your ass down here before that moose steak is over cooked!
Don't know, man; ...not sure I can eat a whole moose!
Ok, I'll give a try but noway I'm taking this shortcut for a bloody moose steak! The well done version will be fine with me.
Day 3. We came in last night from the top of that there mountain but not on the road that zig zags down from it on the right ...as you might of guessed by now.
Doing the tourist ''watuzi'' in Teletubby land.
That's the strangest design I've seen yet for a hunting cabin.
& it's got a ceiling fan on the roof; ...go figure!
Easy street, again!
Someone told me that he saw something about this place in the old testament. He also added that there's a knowledgeable talking tree snake that hangs around in these parts; could come in handy if we can't find our way out, again.
Have KLR, will travel!
